Shepherd's Corner
Pastor George Anderson was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. The son of Bernice and the late Howard E. Anderson, Jr. grandson of the late Wilhelmina Anderson and the late Reverend Howard E. Anderson, Sr., and the late John & Sophie Riley, brother of Sharon L. Anderson and the late Reverend Howard E. Anderson, III, uncle of Thomas, Aaron, Emory and father of William.
He attended the public schools of Wilmington, Delaware. An Honor Roll student from elementary school through high school. In addition to academic success, he received varsity letters in cross-country, track and field, and basketball. At the same time, he was also very active in the Church, participating in the Junior Usher Board, the Youth Choir and the Youth Council at Ezion Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.
After graduating from Wilmington High School, he then attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He graduated “Cum Laude” with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion. He then matriculated to Drew University where he earned his Master of Divinity Degree. For four consecutive summers, he was employed at General Motors, Marine Midland Bank and First USA Bank.
He was ordained a Deacon in 1985 and an Elder in 1992 in the Peninsula-Delaware Conference.
Pastor George Anderson is truly a blessing to the St. Luke Community Christian Church family and community. This year Pastor Anderson is blessed to celebrate 26 years in the ministry. He is an anointed preacher, a devoted teacher and a faithful shepherd feeding his flock the Word of God. He offers inspirational services every Sunday morning. He faithfully visits the sick and shut-in and frequently offers prayer to all who are in need. His dynamic and unique style of bringing for the Word of God reaches many souls, young and old, far and near.
Pastor Anderson is motivated about networking with other churches subsequently, developing the Community Lenten Worship Services with 6 area churches. While seeking to forge Christian camaraderie, he played an instrumental part in making Sunrise Service and Vacation Bible School a joint venture with St. Daniel’s United Methodist Church and Combined Watch Night Service with Thomas M. Thomas Presbyterian Church.
Since his arrival we have been afforded a variety of Worship/Fellowship opportunities through Revivals, Christmas Day (Hour of Power) Service, Silent Communion, Super Bowl Parties and Teen Summits. Pastor Anderson leads workshops on Leadership training, Worship, Young Adult Ministry, Men’s Ministry and offers counseling to all who seek and need it. He served as President of the CFSL (Christian Fellowship Sports League) for 4 years. Presently he is on CSLI (Chester Swarthmore Learning Institute), the Board of CUSEP (Chester Upland Citizens for Educational Progress) and is a member of Christian Coalition Against Violence (CCAV).
